magazine layout

Planning
The reason I have chosen to structure my front cover page this way is to show clarity and variety.       For instance, by including three smaller images instead of one large one I am able to present more       of what is inside the magazine(potentially images from different stories) without giving too much       away.As well as this, the neat organisation of the title, text and images isn't too bold or                         overbearing for the reader, instead it is clear and precise making it easier to understand.

Research: Representation(Magazine Front Cover)

In the magazine cover Lana Del Ray is represented as a subtle soft and sophisticated icon who currently mirrors the 'ideal' appearance of a 21st century woman. The shot type used is a mid to long shot from a low angle(as we are slightly looking up at her as an audience). This low angle heightens the sense of sophistication which radiates from her naturally, whilst also giving her an edge of mystery. Within the mise-en-scene we can see that the lighting used is is neither extreme nor barely visible; instead it is a mellow natural light which highlights the icons perfection in the image.
The elegance and mildness shown proves to be a catch for audiences in both the teen and adult categories.

The narrative of this cover is Del Ray's success and wealth. Again, this narrative is appealing to the target audience and allows people to identify with her due to her level of recognition.

Planning:

As a magazine designer it is clear that any audience that is targeted wants to find common ground with what is being promoted and take ideas from it as a whole. In this case, the representation of Lana Del Ray is significant as the audience connect with her and long to find similarities. This peace of research has taught me to give the audience what they are looking for as a designer. In this case Lana is a symbol of success.

This representation of Lana Del Rey is bold, outlandish and most definitely eccentric to say the least. The flamboyance and extreme use of bright colour could potentially be an indication of what the brand is attempting to promote( in this case women from the 50's and 60's). As well as this, the clear-cut close -up shot of the singer is one which shows planning and preparation signifying that the image isn't one that was taken on a whim. Relating back to the mise-en-scene, the audience can clearly see how the focal image and the dynamic background lock in with the heavy makeup and costume of choice to create a whirlwind of seduction for its target audience( which typically ranges from young teens to middle- aged adults).

Planning:

From the experience of analysing this narrative I have learnt that promotion is key. An audience is firstly attracted by colour and the visual aspects of a magazine cover before any titles or features are read, Therefore, it is critical to think through presentation and how your piece should be constructed in order to create a successful work of art.

media contents pages.

Planning

Each contents page is presented differently, nevertheless there are always distinct features that differentiate a contents page from the rest of the magazine. Those being the font(big/small or other), a list informing the content of the magazine and the main focal image. All of these traits combined together will challenge certain target audiences but appeal to others.

media magazine covers

Planning
From analysing these front covers I have learnt that the images and colours contribute to the way an audience feels about purchasing a copy of the magazine. On the other hand, the information provided such as the subtitle/features and other text gives the reader an insight into the material itself.
